Afnan Alom Shakib, a recent graduate of the Law Department (Batch 54) at Eastern University and a noted youth organiser from Brahmanbaria, died on Friday morning after a motorcycle crash in Dhaka, university and local reports confirmed.
According to campus sources, the accident occurred on the morning of Friday when Shakib was involved in a road collision while riding a motorcycle. He was taken to hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. Details of the crash including the exact location, the involvement of other vehicles and whether any formal police inquest has begun – were not immediately available.
Eastern University issued a brief statement expressing deep sorrow at the sudden death of the law graduate and extended condolences to his family. The university and classmates described Shakib as an active student and a community organiser; he founded “Path Tara School,” a local initiative for street children in Brahmanbaria, and was well-known in his home district for social work.
Local reports said Shakib’s unexpected death has sent shockwaves through his community, peers and the organisations he worked with. Family members, fellow activists and university colleagues have begun making arrangements for his funeral; at the time of reporting, exact burial timings and locations had not been finalised.
