In an emergency press briefing on 27 November 2025, the student panel “Odommo Jobian Oikko” – which is supported by Chhatra Shibir, accused the Jagannath University election commission of partisanship, repeated breaches of the election code, and an unjust postponement of the JNUCSU election.
Panel leaders said the commission began showing biased behaviour before the schedule announcement. They recalled a 2 November meeting with student groups where most participants supported holding polls on 27 November, but after objections from Chhatra Dal the commission later fixed the election for 22 December. The panel described the change as evidence of undue influence.
Among the most serious claims, the panel says chief election commissioner Professor Mostafa Hasan violated the code of conduct by publicly congratulating a candidate from his own department on social media – an action they say shows clear partiality. They also pointed to inconsistent statements from transport administrator Tarek Bin Atik: first saying transport assistance would be provided at the request of two Chhatra Dal–supported candidates and later saying the arrangement was made on the vice-chancellor’s instruction. The panel argues both instances amount to breaches of election rules.
The panel further alleged that despite a ban on candidates addressing gatherings during certain activities, GS candidates and other Chhatra Dal–supported nominees stepped onstage at a 23 November concert, gave speeches and even announced grants, conduct the protesters describe as a blatant flouting of the commission’s directives. They say the commission’s response was weak: only two persons received show-cause notices with 15 days allowed to reply, which the panel called an intentional laxity.
Other complaints include alleged violation of the welfare moratorium (which the panel says came into effect after 12 November) — the panel claims Chhatra Dal distributed plates and glasses on 16 November — and that the GS candidate and associates held a late-night quiz with loud music past midnight, again breaching rules.
The ‘Odommo Jobian Oikko’ leaders demanded that the election commission stop its partiality, strictly enforce the code of conduct, and hold a free and fair vote on the originally scheduled date. They warned they would mobilise further if the alleged bias is not addressed.
