“Admission war” begins at DU: IBA test kicks off amid fierce competition

Dhaka University’s 2025–26 undergraduate admission campaign begins today with the Business Administration Institute (IBA) entrance test, setting the stage for a competitive selection across five units through December. The IBA test runs 10:00am–12:00pm; admit cards for candidates have already been published on the university’s admission portal.
The university will hold unit-wise exams over the coming weeks: the Fine Arts (general knowledge and drawing) unit on 29 November, the Business Education unit on 6 December, the Arts, Law & Social Sciences units on 13 December, and the Science unit on 20 December. In total, DU will fill 6,125 undergraduate seats across five units for the 2025–26 academic year.

Competition is steep from the outset. For the IBA unit alone which offers 120 seats, the official portal shows more than 11,000 applications, meaning hopefuls face an acceptance ratio measured in the tens to one. Prospective students will also face different assessment formats: the Fine Arts unit combines general-knowledge tests with drawing examinations, while science and social-science units follow written test patterns described on the admissions website.
Application for this admission cycle opened on 29 October 2025 and closed at 11:59pm on 19 November 2025, according to DU’s admissions information. The staggered testing schedule and unit-specific formats are intended to manage logistics for thousands of candidates while aligning selection with each discipline’s requirements.
Officials say the university’s online admission portal has the definitive schedule, admit card downloads and test instructions — candidates are advised to follow the portal’s guidance closely and arrive at venues with required documents and exam materials. Examination timing, venue assignments and unit-specific rules are being circulated through the official channel to avoid last-minute confusion.
Admissions administrators and observers point to a few key takeaways from this year’s cycle: a high number of applicants for limited seats at prestigious units such as IBA, the logistical pressure of administering both practical (Fine Arts) and theoretical exams within a tight timeframe, and the continuing trend of centralised testing at Dhaka University that attracts applicants nationwide. The results of these entrance tests will determine placements for thousands of hopefuls aiming to join one of Bangladesh’s oldest and most sought-after public universities.
