Dhaka University has finalised a tightly scheduled programme to mark Shahid Buddhijibi Day on 14 December and Victory Day on 16 December, combining early-morning memorial rituals, mosque prayers, an academic seminar and evening cultural shows across campus. The plan was approved at a meeting chaired by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmad Khan, sets exact times, venues and processions to ensure coordinated observance by teachers, students, officers and residential communities.
Under the programme for 14 December, black flags will be hoisted at 6:20am across the vice-chancellor’s building and other significant campus buildings. At 6:30–6:35am staff and students will assemble at the base of Oparajeyo Bangla, after which the vice-chancellor will lead wreath-laying at the central mosque compound gravesite, Jagannath Hall memorial and various residential memorials. The university community will then proceed to the Mirpur Shaheed Buddhijibi Smritishoudho and Ray’s Bazar execution ground to pay respects. A discussion session chaired by the vice-chancellor is scheduled at the TSC auditorium at 11:15am, and special prayers (mujanajat) will be offered at the central mosque and hall mosques later in the day. Evening cultural programmes organised by the Music, Dance and Theatre departments will close the day.
The 16 December Victory Day schedule begins similarly with national flag-hoisting at 6:20am, assembly at Smriti Chironton at 6:30–6:35am, and a wreath-laying procession to the Savar National Memorial led by the vice-chancellor. Cultural programmes featuring performances from the university’s music, dance and theatre units will be staged at the TSC in the evening; key campus landmarks including Kala Bhaban, Karzon Hall and the TSC will be decorated with lights for the occasion.
University officials present at the programme-setting meeting included Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof. Dr. Saima Haque Badisha, Treasurer Prof. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Proctor Prof. Saifuddin Ahmed, acting registrar Munsi Shams Uddin Ahmad, hall principals, residential teachers and department heads. The administration has urged all faculties, offices and hall authorities to follow the published timetable strictly and to ensure orderly participation.
The administration described the arrangements as a blend of solemn remembrance and cultural tribute: the timed processions and external visits to national memorials are intended to honour martyred intellectuals and the liberation struggle while allowing space for scholarly reflection and artistic commemoration on campus. Authorities said further logistical details and any instructions for participants will be issued through official channels ahead of the observances.
