A dramatic citizen’s arrest took place at Chittagong University (CU) when four alert students exposed an individual who had been posing as a student for a substantial period, allegedly attempting to build close relationships, particularly with female students.
The impostor, identified as Minhaj from Raozan Upazila, Chittagong, had falsely claimed to be a student in the Economics Department, 2022-2023 session (58th Batch). His long-running masquerade ended when the genuine students confronted him near the university station one evening.
When questioned, Minhaj claimed his student ID was “215.” However, the genuine students, including Abu Bait Siam of the Economics Department, knew their batch only comprised 152 students, immediately exposing his lie. Furthermore, he failed to answer basic questions about the department and gave fabricated responses. The students swiftly escorted him to the Zero Point Police Box. The batch’s Class Representative (CR) contacted the Proctor’s office, leading to the prompt arrival of CU Assistant Proctor Nurul Hamid Kanon and several media personnel. After initial interrogation, the fake student was handed over to the university’s Security Department for necessary action.
